Don't forget - at the end of the year, any players who have collected them all will be entered in an automated tournament for a chance to win a sweet prize! Site tips and helpful tools

How can I get players to make their moves faster? I get tired of waiting!

You can't! GoldToken is a turn-based site, allowing players to make moves at their convenience. The trick is to find games more suited to your playing speed! Look for tournaments with 1-day moves and/or no vacation days or days off allowed. Check out the "Fast Ladders" (the default view is "normal ladders" - look for a link at the top of the ladder games list that says "switch to the fast ladders"). Set up "open" game invitations with the parameters you prefer. There are lots of options to keep up with your speedy play.

Game Of The Month

September's game of the month is Muggins! Join us in a fun Double Elimination Tournament by signing up today for The Game of the Month - Sept 2021 - Muggins Tournament!

Best Recipe Contest

August's winner is: Grilled Shrimp Skewers

• Submitted by quietman

Serves 4-6

Ingredients:
For the Rub:
1 tbsp paprika
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp garlic salt
1/2 tbsp black pepper
1 tbsp Italian seasoning
2 tbsp brown sugar
1 to 2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (if desired)

For the Shrimp:
2 tbsp olive oil
2 lbs medium raw shrimp, peeled and deveined (frozen/thawed are okay)

Directions:
Place shrimp and olive oil in a 1 gallon plastic food bag; toss to coat
Refrigerate for about 2 hours
Light the grill and while it's heating place shrimp on skewers (3 or 4 each)
When grill is very hot, grease the grate with canola oil to prevent shrimp from sticking
Immediately place shrimp on grill for 2-3 minutes, turn and cook an additional 2-3 minutes
Move skewers to large platter; serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce

We would like to say to Oddie for letting us step into their personal life for a bit.


1. What brought you to GoldToken, and how'd you choose your name for GT?

Like many others, I was brought to GoldToken by the internet. My GT name is short for Oddie Moore, an alias I use often for my own amusement. I first heard of this name from a song by Skating Polly. The song sounds cool until you listen to the words, which really don't make much sense. Shows what a good beat can do to sell a song.

2. What interests you most on GT? Do you have a favorite game?

My favorite games are pente/golden pente, but I also like the gammon games, especially the tawula and moultezim variants. But nobody plays those- they're really not hard to learn, so I encourage people to give them a try!

3. What state or country do you reside in? What do you think tourists should definitely see?

I live in the state of denial, mostly. Beyond that, I live in Oregon, very close to Mt Hood. I have summitted Mt. Hood, but the most surprising part of that trip was not the effort, but that I was able to make a (very expensive ) call to Australia from the top.

4. What hobbies do you have?

Besides getting my hat handed to me in online games, I enjoy mountain climbing, hiking, backpacking, and running.

5. Children? Grandchildren?

Four kids, my first German granddaughter on the way. (Es ist ein madchen!)

6. Do you work? What kind of work do/did you do?

I'm in high-tech manufacturing. If you ever have trouble sleeping, I can explain that in more detail.

7. Any pets?

Two dogs, a cat , and a (unknown photo)roomba. I like the roomba most of all because at least it earns its keep.

8. Are you under 30?___ 30 to 50? ___ or over 50? Male or Female?

I'm a single male in my 50s. The last part of that sentence goes a long way towards explaining the first part.

9. Favorite food?

Chicken and eggs. I call it "Family Reunion".

10. What's the farthest you've been from home?

For my 50th birthday, I did a solo backpacking trip in Tasmania (an island off the southern coast of mainland Australia for those that don't know). I could hardly be farther from home and still be on the planet.

11. If you could be anywhere right now, where would that be?

I'm always happy wherever I am, but some bucket list destinations include climbing Kilimanjaro and backpacking in Greenland.

12. Favorite season?
(unknown photo) Summer. Living in Oregon, the days are long, the weather is great, and the outdoors is calling.

13. Favorite movie? Favorite TV show?

Such a difficult question. Top ones include The Godfather or Amadeus. However, if you're ever just wanting a good laugh, you can't go wrong with Spinal Tap or The Castle. That last one is an Australian classic. I don't find many people who have seen it, but when I went to Australia, EVERYONE knew it. That's when I knew I was with my people. How's the serenity?

14. If you could meet anyone (living or dead) in the world, who would it be?

If I met a dead person, I'd certainly have to lead the conversation. So I'll keep it to the living. I guess I'd like to meet Brad Pitt. That way, people could see us together and finally settle the argument that we aren't the same person.
