Posted by Robyn Hode on 30 Jul 2022 at 9:55AM
If you allow access to anyone with the link, anyone can open the folder.

1.On your computer, go to drive.google.com.
2.Click the folder you want to share.
3.Click Share .
4.Under "General access," click the Down arrow .
5.Choose who can access the folder.

it's short for robot, as it's automated

they are normally for scamming people, distributing spam or messing things up for competitors

(#5381325) Re: Question
Posted by eliphont551 on 1 Jun 2022 at 6:53AM
I just Googled it:

What is a bot? | Bot definition
A bot is a software program that operates on the Internet and performs repetitive tasks. While some bot traffic is from good bots, bad bots can have a huge negative impact on a website or application.

I am 75 and have heard references to the term bots. What the heck are they. Please explain in terms an old lady can understand.

contracts for the phone im not into, but yeah hotspot tethering is good too.

Posted by GinnyB on 29 Apr 2022 at 12:34AM
Hot spots don't usually have unlimited access and the cost per unit can be overwhelming.
(#5369277) Re: glocalme hotspot
Posted by Jools on 27 Apr 2022 at 3:30AM
says it's 4G, why not just use you phone as a hotspot? That cost nothing except your data charge

I have an Amazon Fire tablet. The antenna doesn't work. So, all the movies I bought I can't watch on it anymore. Next tablet will be an iPad. Probably the $329 version.
(#5364601) Re: Any one know a good lap top to buy?
Posted by marcmandy on 14 Apr 2022 at 6:41PM
I agree.

Just so you know, most tablets can accept a bluetooth keyboard, and some even have cases that have keyboards as part of them.

FWIW, i like the Apple iPad. I havenít used any others, so itís perhaps a useless observation in this case.

G*Luck

Writing and getting things done, focusing on some issues I need to sort, and I never get round to on home pc...I have decided to go up town up town to one of our mega computer shops and have a big look. It is a touchy feely purchase I think so one on one with the options is a good idea..I feel..
(#5364465) Re: Any one know a good lap top to buy?
Posted by marcmandy on 14 Apr 2022 at 10:43AM

I think a key question is: what are you using it for Phil?

If you are using it for photo work, most tablets aren't designed for that kind of processing. If you had Lightroom (NOT Lightroom Classic), there is a mobile app for photos that is quite decent.

If you are using it for writing, GT, and browsing, a tablet would be just fine.
(#5364404) Re: Any one know a good lap top to buy?
Posted by phil on 14 Apr 2022 at 4:55AM
Thinking about it actually you place the battery in your pocket and you build a lap top with its main goal to be light and strong...BANG a new wave of laptops
(#5364401) Re: Any one know a good lap top to buy?
Posted by phil on 14 Apr 2022 at 4:53AM
Tablets having the longer battery time?...I think that is not a big issue for me, but weight is, now lighter to me means if you knock it it is lighter so therefore less weight being banged about so less energy and less damage.....I am not seeing this law of physics being banded about in adverts and therefore helping me with my choice and I do not understand why not???
(#5363759) Re: Any one know a good lap top to buy?
Posted by grummbunger on 12 Apr 2022 at 10:07AM
I think the big advantage of tablet vrs laptop is battery time. but a tablet that you can use as a table or a chair would be a pretty nice factor as well. what is more, you can protect yourself with it by useing it as a club! Falling lol. cheers!
(#5363648) Re: Any one know a good lap top to buy?
Posted by phil on 12 Apr 2022 at 12:12AM
TYVM!! Yep that is the kind of thing I am after, weight matters, I would like it to be light..Also price, as London is not that crime ridden, but I do feel over a certain price might be a target for snatchers....

i did not know this about Gateway:

Gateway and the Gateway logo are the registered trademarks of Acer Inc. and are used under license from Acer America Corporation.

i like many thought gateway was dell's (they have a edge gateway series computer but it is not related to Gateway computers)

so Gateway is Acer's puppy..

TYVM. I have a dell pc, your saying dell lap top or pricey acer are to be considered? The main fact is portable to get me off my main pc so being bashed about because its in a ruck sack is one thing best mensioned...

i was considering mentioning toshiba as a good one as well, in fact it was a toshiba i had put on the ground while at a job one day, hidden behind a bush. i was power washing the driveway and even though i was playing music on it, i had kinda forgot it was there behind the bush. afterward i realized just how much water i sprayed over it. it had shut down on its own and when i dried it out it worked just fine. lol. i guess it is like the timex watch thing, "takes a lickin but keeps on ticken"
i have a friend that still has and apple ][e and software (not a laptop but super old and still going...)
(#5362026) Re: Any one know a good lap top to buy?

I've always had good luck with Toshiba (if spouse doesn't spill a whole can of soda on it.) They are pricier but have lasted longer than any other laptops I have had. grummbunger?
(#5362023) Re: Any one know a good lap top to buy?
Posted by grummbunger on 7 Apr 2022 at 1:39PM
if you go with acer dont look at cheap pricing, high price acer is good low price is bad performance.
HP is good and not hugely pricey, but the best is Dell, dude, dell computers of the xps series is rocking nice machines as the xps is what was called alienware computers. ASUS is a pretty stable brand, Lenovo (in my opinion) is maily eye candy (has colored lights and stuff that look great but do nothing to make your computer run faster.
as a tech i see myself repairing software on the acers more than the rest, but cheap slow acers.
what not to buy: chromebook, compaq (yeah they still sell stuff to put in your garbage can)
in summery i'd say a Dell computer

I download Windows 11 (free) and I don't care for it at all. Just made things more complicated for someone who really isn't all that tech savvy.

But concern about 10 being outdated made me decide to do it. However, after 5 more years of 10 being outdated, I'm sure 11 will be too (and probably 12, too)

Fragile kitty said windows 10 will only last 5 more years. So why buy it? Puzzled

My Acer has been pretty good to me too, they are good value and well built.
My sons have both had Lenovos too which excellent but a bit more expensive.
It really depends what you want it for and what your budget is, if you want good graphic capabilities you will need a faster processor with more memory , which are often considerably more expensive. If you just want it for basic function the the entry-level ones are fine.

Personally I would stick with Windows 10, W11 use a lot more resources and doesn't give any more real benefits (My laptop isn't powerful enough for W11). My son upgraded to Windows 11 and said it wasn't worth the hassle

if you have a wireless adapter on your computer you can set up a hotspot on your phone to allow your computer to use it. (most mobiles can do hotspoting) on android you would go to settings and search magnifying glass) type in hotspot, choose "mobile hotspot" if you have a sim card in (the chip that makes your phone a phone) it will give you the name of the wireless connection you will connect up to as well as a password generated on that page. once done you will see a connection on your computers wireless connection..
