marcmandy fast invite question

[ marcmandy fast invite question ]

Hi, Jim,

A player came to me with a wiki question relating to quick invitations. Something that I think comes from the old days. I’d never heard of it before, but it’s kind of interesting and I can see where it would have its uses.

The line reads:
Invite Badger and Chad and Mecir to a game of Xiphiastoo and it comes up as a link on a wiki page. When Invite is clicked it takes you directly to the first page of the invitation to that game.

Test for Spades: Invite Badger and Chad and Mecir to a game of Spades

That one works. When I substitute Spades (a part of the Whist games) for Xiphiastoo it tells me that this game invitation is not valid. The same for Hearts.

When I put in Barricade it works, but not Small Barricade. { Invite: Small Barricade: Badger,Chad,Mecir } but no active link on the wiki. I tried Barricade Small and again it showed up as { Invite: Barricade Small: Badger,Chad,Mecir } on the wiki, but not as an active link. If I put in SmallBarricade without a space I get the same this game invitation is not valid. I tried it as Barricade/Small to no avail.

Is this a case of incorrect syntax? Assuming it is, what would the correct syntax be?

Or is this a case of only working for the top level game?

Thanks!
marc

1. To send an easy invite you need to type the game name followed by a colon ( : ) with one space right after the word Invite:
2. Then paste or type your potential opponents name with one space right after the game name Invite: Chess:

      It should look something like this: { Invite: GameType: player(s) }
Make sure you position it within the 2 curly brackets ~~~> { ... } <~~~ with a space either side of the typing.
If the curly brackets touch any of the letters the link won't work, there MUST be a space.
For example: {Invite: GameType: player(s)} - {Invite: GameType: player(s) } - { Invite: GameType: player(s)} do not work...
Finished it should look like ~~~>Invite Chad to a game of Checkers
Make sure you spell and capitalize your name exactly.

For multiple player invites, simply add a comma after each players name like this:
Invite Badger and Chad and Mecir to a game of Xiphiastoo
Just substitute the game name and the player names.

Another Sample:
Invite Badger and Chad and Mecir to a game of Barricade

Sample for variants:
Invite Badger and Chad and Mecir to a game of Small Barricade
Invite Badger and Chad and Mecir to a game of Spades

The short answer to your question is that the game names have to be what is used on the back-end. Spades isn’t known as Spades in the database. It’s called WhistSpades.

At least, that’s my guess. I didn’t actually code that part of the wiki, but from what I know about the internals of the site and the fact that the main games work as you intend, I’m pretty confident that’s the answer.

If you don’t know the database name of the game variant, you can always find it by going to the new game tab, finding the game you want, and clicking on rules. Then the name will be visible at the end of the URL.

For Spades the url he describes is https://www.goldtoken.com/games/newgame?gt=WhistSpades

So the name of the game Spades for this purpose is WhistSpades:
Invite Badger and Chad and Mecir to a game of Spades
Within the brackets the text reads:"Invite: WhistSpades: Badger,Chad,Mecir"

The name for Hearts is "WhistHearts" as described in the url: https://www.goldtoken.com/games/newgame?gt=WhistHearts
Invite Badger and Chad and Mecir to a game of Hearts
Within the brackets the text reads:"Invite: WhistHearts: Badger,Chad,Mecir"

FYI-

Fast Hearts name is WhistHearts2
Invite Badger and Chad and Mecir to a game of Fast Hearts
Short Hearts is WhistHearts3
Invite Badger and Chad and Mecir to a game of Short Hearts

Likewise, for Fast Spades WhistSpades2
Invite Badger and Chad and Mecir to a game of Fast Spades
and Short Spades is WhistSpades3
Invite Badger and Chad and Mecir to a game of Short Spades
