GoldToken's Monthly News

  • 15th Birthday

October 5th, 2014, marks GoldToken's 15th birthday! Be sure to let everyone you know who used to play here, and invite them back for a fun reunion. We will be giving away memberships, duffle bags and various old GoldToken prizes like pens and notepads. Mark the date on your calendars!

  • New Game In Beta Testing: Quarto

Over on the Beta Test site we have a wonderful new game called Quarto. This game has been described as "Four In a Row on Steroids." You need to get four pieces in a row by color, size, pattern or shape. We are looking forward for this game to make the crossover and go live on this site.

Things here in Arizona are starting to cool down, though not by much, and I find I am spending more time at GoldToken. As Labor Day weekend comes to a close, I hope you all enjoyed some time off with fun, family, and friends. heyred72 asked me to say thanks to everyone who sent her an invite for the game of their choice! I have found that I really enjoy Barricade and would love it if people would send me invites - who's up for the challenge? Smiling

Why am I getting an error message when I try to upload my photos?

This is a commonly asked question, and one of the easiest issues to resolve! High five The error message occurs when images are exceedingly large. To correct this, simply open your image with whatever editing software you prefer and then "resize" it. A good size to aim for is 1000x600 or smaller. Thumbs up

August's winner is: Kielbasa & Peppers over Rice

This is a family favorite!

Ingredients
•White rice (or your preference)
•2 packages of Kielbasa (we like Beef Polska, Hickory Farms)
•2 Green Bell Peppers
•2 Red Bell Peppers
•2 Yellow or Orange Bell Peppers

Directions
1. Start water boiling for rice (to be prepared according to package directions). Cooking
1. Wash the peppers. Cut out and discard stems and seed cores.
2. Slice the kielbasa - I like thin, round slices so it browns nicely - and cook in a large skillet on medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
3. While the kielbasa is cooking, cut the peppers into pieces, approx 1" squares. Add to the skillet.
4. Cover the skillet and continue cooking, stirring occasionally.
5. Prepare rice according to package directions.
6. When the rice is finished cooking, the kielbasa and peppers should be ready too.
7. Serve kielbasa and peppers over rice. Enjoy!

Testimonial Of The Month
Brought to you by: *GoldToken* Players

When a person I met on another site told me of something much better, with more games and nicer people, I took a look at GoldToken and became a member back in April of 2003. As it turns out, it was one of the better things I've done in my life. I've met some great people and sad to say a few have passed away in the last 10 years. A terrible loss as we had become good friends. I'm proud to say I've brought a few here Bluejay , WONRHAF , Iron Maiden Fan, among others and they are all so glad that they joined the "family". It's unbelievable all the good people that have become my friends and share the joys and heartaches in their lives. I belong to a few clubs and join in their tournaments when possible. I am also owner of the Kitties Korner & Doggie Daycare club and we hold monthly site run wikiless tournaments. I will continue to tell everyone I know about GT. Thanks for all the years of enjoyment.
furryfeet Stan

Goldie Story Board Highlights

Since August 26th was National Dog Day Playing with dog was about dogs, there were some good entries but there were not enough to hold the contest. There must be at least three entries to qualify for voting.

I am hoping that this coming month we will see more stories entered. The Theme for September will be: Grandparent's Day.GrampaGrandma The impetus for a National Grandparents Day originated with Marian McQuade, a housewife in Fayette County, West Virginia. Her primary motivation was to champion the cause of lonely elderly in nursing homes. She also hoped to persuade grandchildren to tap the wisdom and heritage their grandparents could provide. President Jimmy Carter, in 1978, proclaimed that National Grandparents Day would be celebrated every year on the first Sunday after Labor Day...looking forward to all the great stories and don't forget the DB to help you locate the goldies you want to use...Thumbs up

Breaking Club News:
Brought to you by GoldToken's roving reporter, PattyMac
A NEW Club!!
Knowing that the game of "Quarto" was coming soon, MrLarry47started GoldToken's first Quarto Club. { Club }. Within days of arriving they have a club tournament set up for sign-ups. Anyone can join, it is an "open invite" club. The club already has 11 members waiting for the first club tournament to begin. Who wouldn't want to be crowned Champion of the first ever Quarto Tournament at Goldtoken! If you enjoy Quarto, you can help us make { Club } one of the best clubs at Goldtoken.
MrLarry47 addes that in his opinion Quarto is one of the best games Goldtoken has added to the site in many years, so come and join them for some fun.

A little about the game - The playing board is a 4x4 grid on which pieces can be placed. There are 16 pieces in the game - exactly as many as there are positions on the grid. Each of the pieces is unique, and is:
•Large or Small
•Red or Blue
•Marked or Unmarked
•Circle or Box
Each piece has a different combination of these four properties, which means that each piece is unique.

The Daily Laugh Club
The letter said my blood was Type A. But it was a Type O.
I didn't like my beard at first, but it grew on me. Smiling

As August comes to an end the Lovely Laughers in The Daily Laugh club continue to enjoy a new game every single day. Along with a daily joke of course! Everyone always loves a good giggle......but they play to win and enjoy some great contests in all of the games offered by GT.

They are currently celebrating a victory in a Club v Club challenge where we won against the wordsmiths of the wonderful The Word O'Rama Club in a hangman challenge! They are also steadily climbing the club ladders!

There are just a few spaces left in the Club, so do contact smiler5 if you would like to join the fun.

The Overall Competition Club has moved to the last five tournaments of the year. Each contest starts the last day of the month. The top five players each month win small prizes in golderos. All players accumulate points for the Overall Competition which offers bigger prizes in golderos to the top seven players. Current leaders for 2014 are greggyw, smiler5, AndrewB, McGoo98, Tian-Xian, tango2, SarahMills, TrueIndian, 1926, and jamchug. For more info contact 1926

{ Club } is having their first two tournaments beginning Sept. 1st. Tournament #1 is a club wide double elimination tournament, continuing until one player is left standing. The other is site wide and was suggested by member Big Giant Head and therefore bears his name. Both tournaments feature Dice Chess and 10 x 10 Dice Chess. There's been an enthusiastic response and it will be intriguing seeing who triumphs in what is sure to be exciting contests.

Club owner, Knight Jarlynn is already planning future tournaments. One is to honor friend and chess expert Scot(luctruc) who passed away 3 years ago. The second upcoming tournament will feature a men's team playing against a women's team, which is a fun idea. To sign up, visit the [ Main: The Women vs The Men Chess Tournament ] wiki or contact Knight Jarlynn or heyred72 for help.

The Save Our Earth Club
Do you like quiz shows? Trivia Pursuit? If so, then you might like to join the The Save Our Earth Club, because they have ongoing trivia exercises. In fact, they have an entire discussion board devoted to quizzes. The name of the club gives you a hint that members are interested in nature and the environment, so that's what the questions are about. The topics can range from astronomy, to animals, plants and fun facts about locations across the globe. One day there might be a question about the deepest part of the ocean, or what planet is closest to us and the next day it can be about animals of Australia or a rare flower.
Though club owner, ladyvic often posts the questions, anyone can do so. As for the answers, all the members can yell out their guesses on the board and soon the answer is revealed. Even if you don't know the answer, you still learn a lot, often about unusual subjects. For many members it's their favorite discussion board. You too, can be part of the fun by joining the The Save Our Earth Club. Contact ladyvic for more information.

The Club Highlight

{ Club }
Rock-paper-scissors is a hand game played by two people. The game is also known as roshambo or another ordering of the three items (with "stone" sometimes substituting for "rock").

The game is often used as a choosing method in a way similar to coin flipping, drawing straws, or throwing dice. Unlike truly random selection methods, rock-paper-scissors can be played with a degree of skill, with sufficient practice, especially if the game extends over many sessions with the same players; it is possible to recognize and exploit the non-random and predictable behavior of an opponent.

Rock-paper-scissors isn't just a silly game kids play or a way to decide who has to be the one to take out the trash. This is serious stuff. It's psychological warfare.
