GoldToken's Monthly News

I am happy to announce several new additions to GoldToken during this past September!
  • Besides two-game invitations - you can now send four-game and six-game invitations, thanks to Mecir and his incredible coding machine!
  • 500-point Rummikub is now available, including variants.
  • Automated vacation days are now possible! If you set the Automatically set vacation days option in your general preferences, the site will automatically put you in vacation if you still have vacation days left.
  • Anonymous Discussion Boards:
    • - An advice board for everyone. Post your query and GoldToken's anonymous hosts will provide sage answers
    • - GoldToken's masquerade party where players take on an entirely different personality...as an animal. Write GoldToken Support for your character today!
      • You can win a 6 month mebership playing this game!
  • Forum reporting. All players can now help watch the boards and report offensive posts. This puts moderating in your hands.
    • The up/down goldies are hidden by default, and only appear when you move the mouse near the "Votes: ##" text at the bottom of the post.
    • No worries: If a post is valid but was voted off the boards, it will promply be returned to the board and not be removable again. Players who continually report posts that are not bad will find this feature removed.
  • Facebook integration - If you are a Facebook user, you can now "Like" individual player profiles and player blogs - you surely know this from other web sites.
  • The game list on the "New Game" page is now alphabetically sorted!

Huge Congratulations for GoldToken's Club Owner of the Year - PattyMac! Patty wins two extra months on her membership! High five

Congratulations goes to an anonymous player Blushing, for the winning entry: { Image: goldtoken.com/pics/banner-1208.gif }. All entries can be seen on the DB. Thumbs up Excellent creative graphics all!

Have a wonderful month and play like you mean it!

1st Stop Information
Site tips and helpful tools

A game just appeared on my gamesheet, and I didn't even get a chance to decline the invitation. Why did that happen?

We get this question most of the time when a new player attempted to decline an invitation that was open for anybody to play. Since these invitations are not sent to players individually, but are simply available for any player to join, you cannot decline this invitation. Sending any kind of response to this type of invitation will sign you up to play the game.
Some of our clubs have a "club challenge" feature that allows one club member to challenge another to a game. Those club challenges are not subject to the same accept and decline rules as normal invitations.
One other way that you can end up with a game on your game sheet against a player you don't recognize is if one of your opponents decided to change his or her name.

Game Of The Month

October's game of the month is Cribbage! Join us in a fun Double Elimination Tournament by signing up today for The October 2011 Game of the Month - Cribbage Tournament! Have fun

It is important, towards the end of the game, to keep a careful eye on who is dealer. Obviously, if you are the dealer, the other player's score will count first; so it is sometimes worth sacrificing a high score in your hand in order to keep a good pegging hand. If both players are close to the finish this is, as dealer, your best chance of winning. Just a thought...... Good luck all cribbage fans out there!

We hope you enjoy it!

Special Thanks written on a blackboard to *smiler5* for writing this month's Game of the Month Nugget. You too, can write a knock-out Nugget and reap the rewards! If your Nugget is chosen as the winner for GoldToken's Game of the Month in GoldToken's Monthly Newsletter, you will win:
  • Silver, Gold, and Platinum Members: a one month extension to your current membership
  • Wood Members: a free membership upgrade
  • Guests: a free two-month Silver Membership
So, what are you waiting for? Start writing! .

Best Recipe Contest

September's winner is: Cheesy Chicken & Potato Casserole

3 teaspoons vegetable oil
3 boneless skinless chicken breast
1 package scalloped potato mix
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Preheat oven to 350

Heat oil in skillet over med heat, add chicken (for thick breast, slice in half), saute until tender, making sure it's done in the thicker spots, the chicken turns white I usually let it get slightly golden, remove from grease set aside to cool, once cool cut the chicken into smaller pieces and shred
In a large sauce pan make the scalloped potato mix as directed except substitute milk for water fold in your chicken and 1 1/2 cup cheese, pour into 9 x 13 baking dish, cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes, remove foil cover top with remaining 1/2 cup cheese bake 10 more minutes uncovered, let cool for 5 - 10 minutes and enjoy I usually make mine with 4 cups of cheese

I joined this site 27 January 2001, I was playing at IYT and a player there told me about this site, I was hooked on GoldToken from the start. I have not went back to IYT since.
This place is wonderful. I like the games here, all except give away backgammon, not to great at Checkers but I play it at time, Chess have not learned the game, and possible will not either. I like all the rest of the games tho.
There is wonderful people here, I got my best friend to come and play here, she was here until she passed away this year. I got my sister to join and she is liking it here also
Thank you Chad and Taylor for making this site, and Thank you Badger for keeping this site the wonderful place it has always been.

Impressions of a GoldToken Newbie
Brought to you by Serene Selene

Impressions of a Gold Token newbie

GoldToken is a turn-based gaming site, and much of its strength lies in the variety of games which are available, along with their variants. But other sites have interesting games too, so what makes GoldToken so different?
For me, it is the personal touch.

For one, no other site has such a variety of emoticons with which to embellish one's messages. Going through the double list of GoldToken emoticons (which you can find when you click on “messages” or “inbox”) there is such an array of fun icons it's difficult to think of one that might be needed that is not there. GoldToken's emoticons really put a personal touch to anything you might want to say, whether it's just a smiley, or a whole paragraph filled with colour (like my profile description, which I had a lot of fun composing!).
Another great aspect of GT is its tangible sense of community. Through its clubs, chums, and (my latest discovery) its blogs, one can feel a real sense of connection. In particular, the blogs offer an avenue of expression that can really bridge the gap – in my case, for example, between where I am in Australia with those of you who are my friends in America and throughout the world. There really is no substitute for this feeling of connectivity, and I thank you for helping to make it real, GoldToken. Already, I have found that players will seek me out to replay games I may have won or lost simply for the pleasure of playing. And through the blog competition last month, I discovered just how many wonderful people and insights exist on this site – so much deeper than any other site, I know from experience.

This will be my last article under the moniker 'Impressions of a GoldToken newbie” because I truly feel so welcomed and part of the GoldToken community that I need not call myself a newbie anymore. Besides, after being here for some six months, I begin to ask myself "How long can one call oneself a newbie?" - perhaps this question would make a great subject fora survey/poll!

I know that there is so much more to write about this wonderful site, and I will do so, maybe not as a GoldToken elder yet, but at least as one who has come, has seen, and stayed – because I love this site – and would have it no other way!

Serene Selene

Contest of the Month

October's contest is the best New Game Design submitted throughout the month. You can include your own graphics, opt to use graphics already available on GoldToken, or if chosen as the winning entry, possibly have your graphics designed by our professional graphic artists. All entries will be reviewed for playability, and judged by GoldToken's Graphic Arts team. The winning game will be announced in November's newsletter. Winner will receive two extra months on their current membership, or, if Guest, a two month Silver membership, and see their new game added to GoldToken's venue of games (as long as it is feasible to code), sometime during this next year.

There are a number of steps involved in creating a new board game. A new game design can be a variation of a current game or entirely new, but it must be original and not a game found anywhere else. Start with variations of games that you love, that you loved as a child etc. Work out what makes these games fun, what’s wrong with these games, what could be better. Look at all different kinds of games from many different genres. This is the funnest part of game design. We hope you enjoy planning your entry!

Please send your game idea to GoldToken's Newshound no later than October 28, 2011.

Interesting Club Of The Month
* Interview by: laura lee*

This month's club interview is with The Prime Time TV Club PattyMac

1. Please Tell us a little about your club....
*The Prime Time TV Club*

How long has this club been on GT?...
It was started about 3 years ago
About how many members do you have?
As of now we have 143 members

2. Are you the original owner?
Yes, I am the original owner

If so, what prompted you to start this club?
I started the club after watching a final episode of one of the Prime Time shows that was just so over-whelming to me I had to have someone to talk to about it. Laughing We cover all the news about TV shows along with the stars and "Rumor Has It".

3. What kind of games does your club play?
We play just about all the games, some of course are not as popular as others.
As for those favorite games, we have a twice monthly "Can't Get Enough" games that are started by myself with a one time sign up. If the member decides later that they do not want to play a particular game then all they have to do is remove their name from the list.
We also have a "Cooking Corner" where we play games for Cook Books, most of these are ones that have been put out by organizations of the members favorite recipes. We also about every three months throw a party, recipes are gathered and there is a prize for the drawings on the ones that participated. One of our recent parties was Mexican Fiesta, given for a prize was a Salsa made here in Texas in a small town not far from me.

4. Does your club do a lot of club vs. club ?
We participate in the Inter-Club Challenges, currently we have two still running. We also try to join the ClubvsClub Wikiless put out every month.

5. What do you think of the tourney ones?
Or do you enjoy doing the wiki's?
I find the wiki club vs club tourney a real challenge, more times than not one club or both lose players and the wiki is hard to keep up to date.
I prefer the wikiless ones

6. Do you have a lot of 'helpers' ?
Right now I am a little light on helpers but birdstoe and JustPlayin pitch in for me and help me with some of the maintenance.

7. What are your future plans for your club?
Future plans include getting the membership back up to 150 and looking for new game wiki formats. We have a member profile right now and I hope to be able to eventually get every member on there. I have been a bit absent of late due to a family crisis that thankfully is on the down side now. The members have been wonderful and understanding of my slow play, hope to be as active as always soon.

8. Do you have any other clubs?
yes, I have 4 other clubs
Would you like to tell us a little about them?.
The Multi-Player Gaming Center Club is a fun club for just going back to Fairy Tales, I don't think we ever get too old to enjoy Fairy Tales. We also have a "Book Corner" where games are played for Books...
The Club Nascar Club is all about Nascar, I am a big fan and so enjoy the sport and all the members there. We have a race every time Sprint Cup races.
The To Your Health Club It's a club dedicated to the support and understanding of health issues faced by oneself and other members of Gold Token. To share ideas, medical news, recipes, well wishes and most importantly support. It's a great club we play lots of games and have a "Craft Corner".
The Daily Laugh Club This club is run by some of the best officers in the site. They offer games and some humor on the Discussion Boards as well. Only the most popular games are offered.

Thank you PattyMac for letting us have a look at your club... Smiling
Laura
