  • 24/7 Profile Token Game

Congratulations to pepperbeach for having the token at the end of the year!!! For being the player who was holding it she wins a 2 month extension to her current membership.

The token has been moved and the game is afoot again. Can you find it and hold on to it? Remember the token you are looking for looks like this: . When you find it claim it by writing to GoldToken Support and let them know where it is currently located. If you are the first person to find it the token will then be transferred to your account. No Spoofing it allowed.

Note Once the token is moved from your account it has to move again before you can claim it again. Once a year (a random date each December), who ever holds it gets a 2 month Silver membership prize or extension of their current membership.

  • How about trying something new in the new year?

A friend is trying to get a new website up and running, and we're including the information here for anyone who's ready for a new adventure:

Welcome to AlphaFleets Online!
Engage in this free-to-play space and ground war for control of the universe.
Immerse yourself within this one single infinite space that's player driven!
Control a ship and explore the galaxy, drive trucks and tanks, and build buildings that can protect your lands or build satellites to defend your world!
Choose to build a world that gives you resources, or upgrade your defenses against your enemies,
or perhaps go on offense and upgrade your weapons for mass destruction and gain control over enemies' worlds!
Define your power and build your empire against real players in the fight for domination.

AlphaFleets is new and in development - Alpha Stages. We are currently looking for alpha/beta testers so that we can make this game better and balanced.
We are consistently making almost weekly updates, so join us, and help us make AlphaFleets a great game!

I hope 2015 is off to a great start for all of you! My family is preparing to move again. We arrived in NW Arkansas last January and have been renting a house, but have decided to commit and buy a house nearby. This move will be a lot easier than the last one - bringing 3 cats on a 19 hour drive was not so much fun. Frightened I'm looking forward to a new start in a new home (new to us), and am doing my best to be a healthier, happier person this year. For Christmas, my family got new bicycles and have been out every dry day that's been over 40F so far. Dancing I know that whatever this year brings, though, I can always count on my GoldToken family for support and encouragement! Group hug Send me a game invite if you have room to spare on your gamesheet - I'll play anything at least once. Laughing

Site tips and helpful tools

Player of the Year

Yes, it's that time again. Cheerleader We're preparing to choose the 2014 Player of the Year. The polls will soon be going up. Please remember, voting is in two stages. 1st stage is preliminary voting. That is where the top players in the games are listed and voted on by the rest of the players. Stage 2 is a final poll listing all the winners of stage one to pick the ultimate Player of the Year.

How is one picked to be in stage one you ask? We are glad you asked. There are 4 criteria a player has to meet to be eligible to be listed in stage one.

To qualify for the list:

1 ~ Players may not have won Player of the Year before. That includes FixitDave, PIRANHA, Kat, stormy rebel, superkaempe the gentle giant, PattyMac, Jacob1987 and heyred72.

2 ~ Must be listed on the Best Players list for a game or a variant.

3 ~ They must be active on GoldToken. This means they must have been on the site sometime on or after December 1, 2014, and

4 ~ Must have played the game or a variant at some point during this year.

It must also be noted that each player can only be on one poll. So even if you are a chess master you could end up on another poll and therefore not be nominated in chess. This does not make you any less of a chess player, it just means you are also good in another game. Grinning

Game Of The Month

January's game of the month is Gami! Join us in a fun Double Elimination Tournament by signing up today for The January 2015 - Game of the month - Gami Tournament! Have fun

What card should I take after I get a Gami, by Fian:

First and foremost is "Can my opponent make a Gami on the next move." If the answer is "Yes" the obvious card to take is one that breaks up the opponents Game. If the answer is "No" then next is there a card that will help you make a Gami on the your next move. If the answer is "Yes" then take it. If the answer is "No" I find the best card to take is the last card your opponent put in his/her hand from the stock. Your opponent has a plan and that card helps to achieve that plan.

We hope you enjoy it!

Special Thanks written on a blackboard to *Fian* for writing this month's Game of the Month Nugget. You too, can write a knock-out Nugget and reap the rewards! If your Nugget is chosen as the winner for GoldToken's Game of the Month in GoldToken's Monthly Newsletter, you will win:
  • Silver, Gold, and Platinum Members: a one month extension to your current membership
  • Wood Members: a free membership upgrade
  • Guests: a free two-month Silver Membership
So, what are you waiting for? Start writing! .

Best Recipe Contest

December's winner is: Scalloped Potatoes and Ham

Ingredients

4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter, plus extra for greasing dish
1/2 yellow onion, diced
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups half-and-half
1 1/2 cups milk
Freshly ground black pepper
2 pounds russet potatoes, washed thoroughly
3 cups diced cooked ham
2 cups grated Monterey Jack cheese
Chopped fresh parsley, for sprinkling, optional

Directions

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Add the butter and onions to a large skillet over medium heat and sauté until starting to soften, 3 to 4 minutes. Sprinkle the flour over the onions and whisk them together. Continue cooking the onion/flour mixture until golden brown, about 2 minutes. Stir in the half-and-half and milk and whisk around, allowing the mixture to thicken; this will take 3 to 4 minutes. Add some pepper, stir the sauce, reduce the heat and keep warm.

Slice the potatoes really thin using a mandolin or a really sharp knife, the thinner the better. Generously butter a 2-quart baking dish, then add half the sliced potatoes and half the diced ham. Sprinkle on half the cheese then pour on half the sauce from the skillet. Repeat with the rest of the ingredients, ending with a layer of cheese and sauce. Sprinkle extra pepper on top.

Cover the dish with foil and bake it for 40 minutes, then remove the foil and bake until the cheese is golden brown and the sauce is bubbling, an additional 20 to 30 minutes. Sprinkle with chopped parsley if desired and serve it up.

Up front & personal
Interview by: laura lee

{ Image: i994.photobucket.com/albums/af66/llwgirl/NewYear/29410_zps617295e1.gif }

**~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~**

We would like to say Thank you to Dionysos for letting us step into their personal life for a bit.

1. What brought you to GoldToken?

Like quite a lot of people, I was in a web game site called Itsyourmove.com, but their idea of games are not mine, so, in 27 April 2001, I changed to GoldToken, and am still there.

What interests you most on GT?
Your all time favorite game here?

I, to start with, was only interested in chess,Playing chess but the rest came about a year afterwards. Now, though, my all time favorite game is backgammon - and its variations, but still run a chess club, The Fighting Pawns, inherited from firefly - who still plays chess and others, but now only occasionally.

Do you belong to any of the clubs?

As far as other clubs go, I now belong to 11, including a few that are mostly there for fun, like The Daily Laughs club.
What State or Country do you reside in?

I was born in London, England, which is a very large town, and stayed there, with my parents, until I was 23, then married, and moved to all sorts of places in either England or Wales - mostly in the rural countryside, as neither my wife, Irene, nor me now like to live in any largish town. It's alright for two or three days, as a holiday, but to me, that;s all. But, now that I am retired, I left Britain, to fly Plane about 2,000 miles and live in Paphos, Cyprus - a lot hotter, and also a very nice tourist area. Plenty of tourism in Cyprus, from the seaside areas to the countryside. We live in a wine area called Stroumpi, which is in between Paphos and Polis towns, and The Akamus, which is a nature reserve, is only 10 miles away.
Do you work?

We are both retired, but, for the last 30 years, we started our own typesetting/graphic design company. We sold it in 1999, and bought a Cypriot house, and our retirement income on the proceeds.
Any pets?
Pets? Two cats which came with us to Cyprus, and two Cyprus kitten strays, which we took in, and became firm friends. The only thing is, they miauw in Greek! LOL
Age?
Well, let's say we are passed the age of retirement - we are both in our 71st year.

What's the farthest you've been from home?

Furthest we have been? That's a difficult one - before typesetting, I was a merchandise manager (Europe) of a San Francisco company, and so travellled to California - three times, and the whole of Europe. For our holidays, though, apart from Britain, we have been to Peru - Maccu Picchu, which is a splendid area try it some time - and Egypt, South Africa, Kenya, and Jordan, where we visited Petra, where one of the Indiana Jones movies were, as well as the Dead Sea, and Wadi Rum, where they filmed Lawrence of Arabia.Camera

If you could be anywhere right now where would that be?

Although we adore Cyprus, the year 2016 is our Golden Wedding, and for the first time we are going on a cruise,Ship starting from Miami, to the Mayan cities, swimming with stingrays,SwimmingShark swimming transit the three Panama locks, and white water rafting Raft in Jamaica - as well as several others - so WATCH THIS SPACE!

If there are any questions you would like to see asked in future interviews, please let us know.

Testimonial Of The Month
Brought to you by: *GoldToken* Players

I joined GoldToken in 2003 after looking for game sites on the web. GoldToken was (is) such a friendly, welcoming site, I played, never looked back and is now the only game site I play on. I remember CoolStream welcoming me to the game site and getting me started here. He had such a keen sense of humor. The sense of family is strong whether it is game playing, discussion boards, tournaments or clubs. I have made many good friends on here and some are close friends that know as much about me as anyone though we have never personally met. We share our ups and downs, joke and laugh and just generally enjoy each other's company. GoldToken support works very hard for all of us and is continually coming up with new ideas for our entertainment, whether it be new games, discussion boards, contests, troubleshooting, etc. They genuinely care when players come upon hard times and do their best to support them. You don't find that at any other game site. So while I have a tendency to get too many games at times, it is my time for relaxing and just enjoying, win or lose. Thank you, GoldToken!
