If the words “Neapolitan Shake” brings to mind a multicolor ice cream treat, you would be forgiven. But it's really just one of Gold Token's many popular dice games. Like the ice cream, Neapolitan Shake features three colors, the die(plural for dice) are red, black and green, which gives them extra options not found in the other Shake games.
As in all the dice games, the goal is to get the most points from combinations of the die. Thankfully, points are counted automatically, a big help for those of us with terrible math skills. The easiest and most common combos are the multiples of each number, with extra points for 3 or more alike. Then there is the regular Straight, (with dice in numerical order) and Full House (three of one number and two of another). However,in this variant, there's also the possibility of a Full House in a single color, which gains you mucho bonus points. Other choices exclusive to this game are two pairs of the same color, which has a nice symmetry and a Flush, which can be any numbers, as long as all five are the same color. I think of that one as the “messy combo”, since it can be a random collection as long as they are all dressed in the same outfit.
The really Big Deal is the Neapolitan, which requires all the die to have not only the same number, but also be the same color. And yes, that's nearly as impossible as it sounds, though it DOES happen. On those rare occurrences, you will resemble a goldfish as you stare astonished at the perfect match.Fish Bowl It makes you feel like celebrating, perhaps with a dish of ice cream?
