Database corruption
Database corruption posted by Chad on Thursday 26 October 2000 at 10:30AM
Our database suffered a corruption early this morning. I was able to repair the database, but there may still be some weird stuff in some games. If you have a game that looks weird, let me know, and I'll deal with it.

The most likely thing that you will see is that it shows the wrong person's turn to move. This happened because the move was not recorded when it was submitted, but the turn to play was flipped as if the move were recorded.

Update: We had another database corruption this evening, in the same database table. If this happens again, we'll have to take the site offline until we can find out what's causing it.

New update: Well, I think I found the cause of the second corruption. When I repaired the first I forgot to issue one command that may have prevented the second crash. It looks like at this point we'll be better off just restoring from a version of the database made early this morning. Sorry.
