(#5681176) WNBA Draft

I'm telling you, I think the B in WNBA is starting to stand for Beauty. Paige Bueckers is gorgeous and Hailey Van Lith already looks like a model. Loving eyes

He had a real nothing putt, like there was no way he could botch that up. Rose's putt was so much further away. I knew he wasn't going to make it under that kind of pressure.

Definitely the most exuberant Masters win since Tiger's. It had that similar redemptive quality. And Rory was supposed to be the next superstar after Tiger. To where he should be double digit slams by now. But he became more of the next Phil Mickelson where he's always in it, but doesn't close the deal. But maybe he goes on a run now for the next few years with this monkey off his back.

In a day with multiple highs and lows, he finally won the Masters in sudden death over Justin Rose. His emotional relief was over 10 years in the making.

I'm excited to see where Walter Clayton, Jr winds up in the NBA. He can definitely be another Jamal Murray or Jalen Brunson. He's very versatile offensively and he certainly proved in the final moment last night that he's no liability on defense.

I was shocked to find out he originally played at Iona. Under Rick Pitino. And both of them just had monster years with other schools.

YEA! Third National Championship is in the books. No one will care about the quality of the game, only the result.

Florida back on top of men's basketball. That was one ugly game and one gritty win, but I guess they can't all be pretty.

Lady Gamecocks had a good year, but those other national championships they had a dominant big like Aliya Boston, Asia Wilson or Camilla Cordosa. That made a significant difference. UConn was obviously the best team this year. They also rolled the Lady Gamecock in Feb at the Gamecocks home in Columbia.
(#5679284) Re: Let's Go Lady Gamecocks!

This year's championship though lacked all the flair and drama of the last two years. Paige Bueckers had no equal in this tournament once JuJu tore her ACL.

Posted by Carolina Panther on 10 Feb 2025 at 3:30PM
GO EAGLES! Jalen Hurts ran a great offense, but the offensive line was very impressive. The defense, though, put on the best defensive display that I saw this season. I think the Chiefs only past the 50 yard line once in the 1st half, & the Eagles never took the their foot off the gas in the 2nd half. I think Mahommes could be considered the GOAT sometime, but last night he never found anyone open, and the Eagles did not give him any time before they were in his face. They did not let him scramble and sacked him an unbelievable 7 times I think. The Chief's offensive line was like a deer in headlights, and Mahommes looked bewildered every time he came off the field. Philadelphia left no doubt that they were the best in the NFL this year, and I don't think they were on the radar screen until last night.

Posted by JerNYC on 10 Feb 2025 at 12:58PM
Eagles have two SB wins now against Brady and Mahomes. Broke up two possible threepeats.

The one against Brady was very impressive because that was with Nick Foles the backup QB. That was a very gritty, crafty team.

This current team was just loaded up and down in every facet of football. They were just too much even for the Chiefs. And KC this year was not the best of its dynasty. They won so many games they probably should have lost. Eagles exposed all those weaknesses.

What about the Buccaneers doing the same to the Chiefs 4 years ago?

To be fair, we were probably due a poor super bowl.

Do we have any Philly fans on GT? What a show of force and total domination. Reminded me very much of when Russell Wilson and the Seahawks completely dismantled Peyton Manning and the Broncos. That's the last time I saw an all-time great QB get humiliated by a defense.

Over all, his accomplishments are very good, but I don't think of him as G.O.A.T. material.
(#5663930) Re: DEAR SAQUON....
Posted by golfnutrof on 28 Jan 2025 at 5:21PM
His playoff record was often ruined by mistakes by his teammates and poor defensive calls. Loses to Philly, Arizona and Seattle were not on him.
(#5663853) Re: DEAR SAQUON....
Posted by JerNYC on 28 Jan 2025 at 10:40AM
Well, and aside from Aaron's eccentric views outside of football, he has tarnished his legacy somewhat over the last few years. But we shouldn't forget he was considered the most talented QB in the game for many years, even over Brady, Peyton, and Brees. I'm sure Golf would tell you the frustration of Packers fans that they were not able to win more championships in his prime. His playoff record is kind of spotty. But he was unquestionably a force to be reckoned with on the field.
(#5663851) Re: DEAR SAQUON....
Posted by Carolina Panther on 28 Jan 2025 at 10:31AM
I agree with your top 3 right now. Burrow & Brees are honorable mentions currently, and I think Lamar Jackson could be also. Stock on Burrow and Jackson could rise as time goes on. I don't think Aaron Rodgers is in the club, but that may be prejudice on my part because I do not like him.
(#5663749) Re: DEAR SAQUON....
Posted by JerNYC on 28 Jan 2025 at 12:24AM
He's up there with Brady and Montana. Those are the Top 3 of all time in whatever order you want to put them in.

But if we're just talking pure arm talent, I think Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers are way up there. And Joe Burrow is making his way on there too.
(#5663728) Re: DEAR SAQUON....
Posted by Carolina Panther on 27 Jan 2025 at 9:31PM
Since the Bills and the Lions didn't make it, go Eagles. KC has taken more than their share, although Mahomes is making a strong argument for GOAT.

Second season for Mahomes. He largely say his rookie year.
(#5662544) Re: Down goes Detroit
Posted by Carolina Panther on 22 Jan 2025 at 10:58PM
Didn't Mahomes win MVP as a rookie? Allen or Jackson would be worthy QB recipients. Sequon should certainly be strongly considered. He has been a great running back this year and has pulled the Eagles out of several jams this season.
(#5662270) Re: Down goes Detroit
Posted by JerNYC on 21 Jan 2025 at 9:31PM
They won't give MVP to a rookie. Either Allen or Jackson. Though I'd argue Saquon statistically speaking is the most worthy of MVP. But it always seems to go to a QB.
(#5662267) Re: Down goes Detroit
Posted by Carolina Panther on 21 Jan 2025 at 8:27PM
I was sad for Lions fans. It definitely seemed to be their best chance to make to their first Super Bowl. The Commanders, however, played a great game. Jayden Daniels should likely be MVP. There is certainly strong contenders such as Josh Allen, but Daniels was absolutely brilliant. Should be a great game in Philly this week to determine who represents the NFC in the Super Bowl

I hope the Bills take it all and they remove the Kansas City curse which has burdened them in countless AFC championship games. It is Buffalo's turn. If they get past the Chiefs, it is high time they break the Super Bowl curse of loosing 4 of them I think.
(#5662266) Re: Ohio State

That game got a lot more exciting. Give ND credit, they made it a game. Setting up Ohio State to make a play of the year that sealed it for them. Think we'll be seeing some of these kids in the NFL.

This has to be one of the most massive upsets in football history. I remember when the Jets knocked off Brady and the 14-2 Patriots one year but this feels so much bigger. This is probably more akin to when the Giants beat the undefeated Patriots in the SB.

He was such a character and personality but I had no idea how to explain what he was to my 26 year old nephew. The best I could come up with was "baseball comedian." Grinning

There's just no modern equivalent. He was so many things. And people forget that he played the father on a successful sitcom, Mr. Belvedere. He was one of a kind.

Philly's tough. This group has SB experience. They know how to win gritty or ugly. And Saquon is beast mode this year. I feel like it'll either be them or the Lions.
(#5660244) Re: NFL Playoffs

Chiefs always seem to get the right calls to win. Bills will have trouble with Ravens but then could win. GB imploded today more than Philly dominated. I see Lions getting through.

I agree Kobe was remarkable and deserves to be considered one of the all time greats. Some other to consider would be Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Larry Bird, Magic, Russell. Although his life was cut short, I would say Pete Maravich was the purest shooter, up there with Stephen Curry.
(#5646839) Re: Cleveland Cavaliers 14 - 0
Posted by JerNYC on 20 Nov 2024 at 10:09PM
Don't forget Kobe though. I would say Kobe was the best player after Jordan during the 2000s. Then LeBron from 2010-2020. Now, I guess you would say Jokic, though I think Giannis is right there too.

Curry is out of this world when it comes to assists and scoring, but I agree that LJ has been the best overall player since Jordan.

The Cavaliers deserve much credit for such a great start.

You must have missed the part of his career when he went to 8 straight Finals with two different teams. During THAT era he was the best player on the planet. KG and Duncan were like 7-8 years older than him. Different eras. And Curry was never a better player than LeBron. Better shooter of course. Better scorer some years. Not a better overall player. Not a better defender. Not even a better passer.

Yes LJ was a one man team. He always had to goad them to depend less on him.
The FO did their homework.
I don't know how I missed it but they played Charlotte on Sunday.
They are now tied with the 1948-1949 Washington Capitols and the 1993-1994 Houston Rockets.

Tied with the 1957 - 1958 Boston Celtics and the 2002 - 2003 Dallas Mavericks, only three other NBA teams have ever begun their season better than this.
Our next game is with the Celtics.

Down by 15 points at one time (maybe more .. I took a bath) the Cavs rallied with a 35 -18 point 4th quarter.
