Suppose that at 1 a.m., there were 21 coconuts. The monkey gets one; the first man takes 4; that leaves 16 coconuts. At 2 a.m., the monkey gets a coconut; the second man takes 3; that leaves 12 coconuts. At 3 a.m., the monkey gets a coconut; there are 11 coconuts left, but this is not a multiple of 5. So, 21 is not the correct answer.
