(#5304105) Re: longer games on 3 day time outs

There are two distinct factors which play a rôle in having games time out on the six month limit.
1. Some games are simply inherently long & slow enough that they could possibly run foul of the six month limit, one example being 9 point long gammon particularly if little or no use is made of the doubling cube, games are played out to the end when the outcome is inevitable, & the players are well enough matched that winning margins in each game preclude gammons & backgammons.
2. Some games such as dominoes & various of its variants allow the possibility of playing out an entire round over a considerable length of time with the winner of the round gaining very few or sometimes even zero points as a result.
The first issue can be solved by the simple expedient of either not including those long, slow games in tournaments with a six month limit, or (my preference) applying an appropriate time limit to each different game type depending on the characteristics of each game. The current situation in which 9 point long gammon & 1 point hypergammon both have a six month time limit makes no sense at all.
Games such as dominoes are not susceptible to such a simple solution, however, given that a match could last a much longer time if a considerable proportion of rounds fail to deliver any significant number of points to the winner each round. A more sophisticated timeout mechanism is required to allow matches to continue indefinitely provided that contestants are making their moves timeously & that therefore tardiness is not the reason for matches dragging on. I suggest that a possible solution is for each player's time clock to only start running 24 hours after the preceeding move is saved. The time limit of three days per move will continue to be applied as it is currently, it does not affect nor is it affected by the overall match time limit, the only effect is to allow the match to continue indefinitely provided that the contestants are making their moves timeously.
