The First Snow
If the first real snow of the year occurs early enough, this Japanese Maple shows off one last side to it's fall foliage. Against snow, it's red leaves become almost painfully brilliant red, even when the day is a dreary late fall day. Taken November 2016.

Re: The First Snow
@phil: Thank you!

@Churchgoer: Thanks! Since they're slow growers Japanese maples can be expensive to buy. I bought this one at Wal-mart about 12 years ago. It was about 3 feet tall and the trunk was only slightly wider than a pencil and it cost about $25. I'd just been to a garden store and they were selling 5 foot ones for $75 - I can only imagine what inflation has done to the prices now. I jumped at the ones offered by Wal-mart. I had the patience to wait, though, I worried about everything from deer eating the tree down to the ground to someone digging it up in the middle of the night and stealing it for the first several years until it grew some.

@blackangus: Thank you!

Re: The First Snow
I love these but I cannot get them to live and thrive here in Central Oregon.
