Pumpkin Champions
The new display area for the pumpkins, gourds, and watermelons at the Canfield Fair (Mahoning County Fair). Management of the fair had the old building quietly burned to the ground after many decades of use.

These pumpkins are one of the few things that are getting bigger with age. In 1988, the largest pumpkin was 270 pounds. In 2008, the largest pumpkin first hit over 1000 pounds at 1074.5 pounds. I think in the next year or two, they'll hit 2000 pounds. Taken August 2024.

My mom and I always go to the Canfield Fair. We enjoy seeing those pumpkins. We live in Hubbard, Ohio which is in Trumbull County.

@ Gameheart and Model A - They're getting bigger due to better genetics, better growing techniques, better fertilizers, and extremely meticulous care. I watched a time lapse of a pumpkin that grew to be over 1700 pounds and it was putting on 50 pounds of weight per day at it's peak.

@ * butterfly 1968 * - Did you make it last year? It was so hot on the day I went, I was worried those pumpkins would turn into pumpkin pie Smiling .

Re: Pumpkin Champions
Yes my mom and I went last year. We always go on the first day because they have the shuttle that takes the senior citizens around. They let me go on there too since I'm with my mom. It's too much walking. I have a crack on my ankle so I wear a medical walking boot. I also wear it while I'm at work because standing or walking too much causes my ankle to hurt. It was hot when we were there.
