After a long day of rides, foods, and exhibits, this was my last look at the county fair for the year. Taken August 2007.

Twin Ferris wheels at the Canfield Fair. It's always a delightful trip to this fair but, since it always occurs around Labor Day, I also feel a bit melancholic because it marks the last event of summer and the start of fall. Taken August 2007.

Located in Mesopotamia, Ohio this general store has been open since 1840 and is always a must visit when shopping in nearby Middlefield. They have a large selection of unique soda pop from around the country and I always make sure to try something new. Taken June 2010.

Campfires, the enemy of marshmallows everywhere. This fire was a little too hot for my family members that decided to make s'mores - they burned every marshmallow. Caught several of them on fire. Taken June 2016.

A visit to family living out in the country featured a picnic and games before we set out seats to watch a lovely sunset over the surrounding farm fields, the shooting off of fireworks, then a little star gazing before retiring for the night. Taken July 2016.

My sister bought a farm last fall and one of the first things she did was buy four cows. Meat cows and not diary cows. I have a hard time remembering their names and call them things like "Hamburger" and "Steak" in my head . Taken May 2017.

My one sister hosts a yearly July 4th family picnic that we call "The Big Picnic". Most everyone were able to attend this year which is a good excuse to take a group shot. Taken July 2017.

One of touristy things to do in Ashtabula county is to visit the numerous wooden covered bridges. I think there's close to 20. This is the Harpersfield Covered Bridge and it's 228 feet long. Taken October 2017.

The Smolen-Gulf covered bridge in Ashtabula county is the longest covered bridge in the USA at 613 feet. I've visited this bridge numerous times and this time was the first time it wasn't raining or snowing when I was there. Taken October 2017.

At 228 feet long, the Harpersfield Covered Bridge is the third longest covered bridge in Ohio and is one of 16 covered bridges that are drivable in Ashtabula County. Taken October 2017.

It's probably not apparent, but, for this picture, I'm pointing my camera out of a car traveling at 65 mph. I noticed the rays of light and had to try to get a picture of them. The other dozen pictures I took turned out blurry. Taken September 2019.

The Harpersfield Covered Bridge spans the Grand River in Harpersfield Township, Ashtabula County, Ohio. It was built in 1868 and remains one of the longest covered bridges in the state. The flood of 1913 altered the course of the river which required the addition of the steel span on the north end. In the spring of 2022, construction work will begin that will replace the bridge supports and add a walkway on the east side of the bridge. To accomplish this, the bridge will be taken apart and refurbished and then reassembled on the new supports. Picture taken October 2020.

Among the various contests my local county fair hosts is the largest pumpkin award. This was the 2022 champion. It's interesting to watch how these have grown with the years; in 1988, the champion was only 270 pounds. Taken September 2022.

My Mom is shocked at the size of this pumpkin and how it wasn't at least the runner-up for the year's largest pumpkin competition at the Canfield Fair, my local county fair. The Canfield Fair was has been around since 1846 and is the second largest fair in Ohio; it takes place around Labor Day and most people around here consider going to the Fair as the end of summer. The whole family gathered to help celebrate my Mom's 70th birthday. Two of my nephews can't help themselves and volunteer to help blow out the birthday candles. Taken May 2023.

The new display area for the pumpkins, gourds, and watermelons at the Canfield Fair (Mahoning County Fair). Management of the fair had the old building quietly burned to the ground after many decades of use.

These pumpkins are one of the few things that are getting bigger with age. In 1988, the largest pumpkin was 270 pounds. In 2008, the largest pumpkin first hit over 1000 pounds at 1074.5 pounds. I think in the next year or two, they'll hit 2000 pounds. Taken August 2024.
