GoldToken's Monthly News

I humbly apologize for the long delay in getting this month’s newsletter out. It's not much of an excuse, but like all new mothers feeding their infant every other hour, I have been going without sleep trying to get everything else finished that I used to do, sans sleep (that wonderful dream like state we sometimes take for granted lol). To see the baby pictures, be sure to check out my photo album titled Wings cast toward the sun...Icarus. Pushing baby stroller

August saw a number of fun features and games added! Here is the lowdown:

The wonderful addition of Ludocrous was added to GoldToken’s game repertoire this August, thanks to the creative graphic talent of our own FixitDave and Mecir's coding skills. Several fun Ludo variants were also added along with it:
  • Ludodeux - a variant for two players, each controlling two sides at once
  • Ludocarte - a variant where you draw cards instead of throwing dice, with some of the cards having a special meaning
  • Ludoteym - a team variant of Ludocrous
  • Ludocarteym - a team variant of Ludocarte
An extra fun element, all our new Ludo games use your choice of either 6, 8 or 10 sided dice, thanks to GoldToken's own marcmandy!

This month, we are running the Club Owner of the Year contest. When I think of the clubs here at GoldToken, I think of them as mini GoldTokens. Each one a part of the larger site but yet a site of their own. You can find a club for anything and everything you want, however, these mini sites would not work at all with out the hard work put in by every club president on the site.

The work some of these presidents/owners put in, simply amazes me. They want their club to be the best club on GoldToken and it shows. They organize tournaments, contact other clubs to see if they want to participate, write news for the club to keep them up to date, contact their players on a variety of issues, setup and moderate their discussion boards. Just thinking of all they do makes me tired. So if you are in a club be sure to thank your club presidents and owners today. They have earned it!

Have a wonderful month and play like you mean it!

1st Stop Information
Site tips and helpful tools

What is really going on?

Whenever someone is moderated, disciplined for attacking another player, or is directed to deal with GoldToken Support to resolve an issue, it more often than not gets blamed on Badger. Those of us, who has been here for any amount of time or have dealt with her in anyway, know that she’s very easy going, and has a warm, fun loving nature. Badger may be the one responsible for the day to day running of GoldToken, but her job is really that of overseeing several teams of site volunteers (all affectionately known as The Squirrels) who are actually in charge of answering the support queries, upholding the site rules, checking player profiles, accepting photos, blogs, nickname changes etc. Each one of these trusted players is highly trained on the site rules, policies and required to work as a team. Each will discuss as a group what moderation and/or disciplinary action may be needed before any action is ever taken to ensure things are fair and that the reasons for the action will be clearly stated if and when a moderation and/or disciplinary action takes place. So we wrote this helpful explanation in an effort to put proper perspective where it belongs.

If a Games Administrator makes a post on the discussion boards, it serves as a warning, often instead of what should be moderations. When our site moderators post as Games Administrator, they try to be direct and to the point. A few people complain that our site moderators or service teams are harsh and rude. When they lighten up and post nicer warnings or explanations, others complain that they are condescending. Our poor mods and support team simply can't please everyone no matter how hard they try. In such situations, please remember our volunteers want what all of you want: a fun, happy, safe place to play. Keeping the boards clean is just one aspect of that.

In the entire 8 years since Badger has been managing GoldToken, with Matt as her trusty sidekick, they have followed up on many moderation complaints, only firing one moderator in that entire time frame. The site moderators and support team are indeed most fair. As we have all seen, Badger is quick to apologize and immediately repost something that was moderated in error. Unseen are the number of banned players she gave second, third and forth chances to, despite the troubles they were in. Unseen are the thousands of memberships, upgrades, phone calls and one on one help she so freely gives.

It is to be noted that things between players in any kind of trouble and GoldToken tend to be quite blown out of proportion. Perhaps this happens because it is easy to complain. To throw the naughty behavior off oneself and blame others can be trendy and draw positive attention the player seeks. Those representing GoldToken are under a strict policy to not tell what they know about any player or situation. Thus, the side everyone hears is always the side of the person in question. Unfair as it may seem, remaining closemouthed about things like this can really hurt GoldToken and Badger’s image. However Badger insists that this is one policy that will not change. All the site volunteers who work hard to keep this a great site, hope that in the future, when someone is complaining about GoldToken treating them unfairly, players will keep in mind that there is always another side to the story, and that contrary to popular belief, players are not "singled out and picked on" and that GoldToken is taking the high road and not airing dirty laundry for all to see.

Thank you for your time ~~The Squirrels…..all 101 of us!

Game Of The Month

September's game of the month is Ludocrous! Join us in a fun Double Elimination Tournament by signing up today for The September 2011 Game of the Month - Ludocrous Tournament - with 6 sided dice! Have fun

Ludocrous also know as Parcheesi

Parcheesi is an American version of the Ancient game of Pachisi, the national game of India, in which you race around a track on the game board, attempting to block your opponents while moving your markers to the goal. The game is also known as Pachisi, Parchisi, Parcheesi, and Twenty-Five, and is a descendent of the older game of Chaupar.

This great game, I remember laying the board out on the living floor or the kitchen table and playing it for hours with friends. Use the safe spaces as often as you can because you can’t be sent back to your starting place if you are on one of them. If someone land on you on a regular space they send you back to your starting place and they get to go 10 more spaces. If you build a blockade try to do it on a safe space that way when you break up your blockade wait till you have a large number them move only one piece leaving the other on the safe space. Note for the color blind and visually impaired may be the pieces could also have different shapes like Stars, triangles, square and round.
We hope you enjoy it!

Special Thanks written on a blackboard to *Chef Dale* for writing this month's Game of the Month Nugget. You too, can write a knock-out Nugget and reap the rewards! If your Nugget is chosen as the winner for GoldToken's Game of the Month in GoldToken's Monthly Newsletter, you will win:

Up front & personal
Interview by: laura lee

This month we interviewed furryfeet
**~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~**

1. What brought you to Goldtoken?
Like many others, a person I was playing with on another game site told me about GT back in 2003. Signed up here and never went anywhere else. Tossing heart (left)
How'd you choose your name for GT?
Took the name furryfeet because of my cats Brown catYellow cat. At first I used the name of one of my cats but I was always telling them to "get your furry feet off the keyboard", so I thought it would be a good nic.
2. What interest you most on GT?
The different types of games, tournaments, meeting and making new friends from all over the country and the world. Group hug
what bothers me is when all of a sudden one of the people you're playing with dissappears and no one knows what happened to him/her. you get to know some people pretty good and it's like losing a friend. Crying
3. Do you belong to any of the clubs? How about the chat only clubs (birds, kitties, garden)?
I belong to about a dozen clubs. Maybe one or two are chat only. In our The Kitties Korner & Doggie Daycare Club we play games but anyone is free to ask questions about their cats if they have any problems and are looking for advice.
4. What State or Country do you reside in?
I live in the southeastern part of Wisconsin
Do you live in the City or Country?

5. What hobbies to you have?
I used to hunt BowDeer and fish Fishing when i was younger but just can't get up that early now Sleeping
What other interest do you have?
I play casino poker sometimes and we take one day bus trips Driving a car to different casinos in ours and the surrounding states now and then.
6. Children? Grandchildren?
I have one son & one daughter, 2 grandchildren, a boy and girl.
Do any of them play on GT.
Yes, My son-in-law plays here.
7. Do you work?
I retired in 1995
If so what kind of work did you do?
After 30 years working in a factory and then worked 12 years part time at a boarding kennel. I was a section supervisor and did maintenance/repair work Drill there. I took out the dogs Walking a dog that others were afraid to handle. For some reason they all Playing with dog (except one) seemed to like me. Most of the boarders were pretty good but there was always a few that gave you a funny look. I really liked working at that kennel
8. Any pets?
We had a dog Grey Dog years ago but have had cats since 1980. We are on cats number 5 & 6, Beretta and Mylo. Grey CatBrown cat

I joined this site 27 January 2001, I was playing at IYT and a player there told me about this site, I was hooked on GoldToken from the start. I have not gone back to IYT since.
This place is wonderful. I like the games here, all except give away backgammon, not to great at Checkers but I play it at times, Chess have not learned the game, and possible will not either. I like all the rest of the games thou.
There are wonderful people here, I got my best friend to come and play here, she was here until she passed away this year. I got my sister to join and she is liking it here also
Thank you Chad and Taylor for making this site, and Thank you Badger for keeping this site the wonderful place it has always been.
Kat

While playing with my brother jfromvt, at another site, he suggested I join GOLDTOKEN. This is now the only place I go to play any games. Everything I wanted is here! I could go on and say about all the good people, great games, etc. but if you are reading this, you already know. I never had a problem with anyone and they could eliminate the chump feature as far as I'm concerned. There are so many great games here and new ones coming all the time its hard to say what my favorite any more because it keeps changing. Would like to say thanks to eliphont551 for teaching me all about wiki's. I never turn down an invite, so send me an invite!

{ Club }

This club is struggling right now, they are looking for a New Owner. The club right now has 20 members. If Reality Tv is your passion and you would like to own a Club this might be the place for you. You can send your inquiries to Gzess

The Crafters Fair Club

The crafter's fair club is working on its second "hugs" scrapbook. The first one was a huge success so we decided to make one for a dear friend of GoldToken. This person has been going through some great personal difficulties and we want to bring a smile to their face. The sign up process has just started and we could use at least 3 more people to make it something special.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A SCRAPBOOKER TO PARTICIPATE. PM Scrapbooking Maven to find out who it is for and all the particulars.

The Sallyp and Friends Club

Since becoming GoldToken club of the year The Sallyp and Friends Club have had a constant stream of new members, they have started a couple of new tournaments to try and introduce new members to the club. An Officers meet the Newbies and an 8 player special knockout for each new members.
They have also made a new club board, a question and answer board called Ask cekj Where each month cekj is going to pick a club member and hopefully find out a bit about that member with some fun question and answers.
Their Special days tournaments are now in there 6th month and we have games ready for the rest of the year to celebrate members special days.
They have also started their 2nd set of Alphabet Tournaments after the success of the 1st series.

The United Atheist League Club

"The United Atheist League Club was established nearly three years ago and is proud to be a member of the GoldToken family. The name comes from the TV show "South Park" by Trey Parker and Matt Stone. We might have called it the humanist, reality, philosophy, agnostic or even the gnostic club but if you have seen the show you would understand. We are an island in the sea of Christian clubs here and we have a lively discussion board where we debate everything from the inane to the divine". quote by JimC

They have a few ladders and teams available. The club is open to anyone regardless of ideology - the more points of view the better!

Their discussion boards are unmoderated so if you are easily offended when your ideas are challenged then this club might not be for you. JimC advises that a sense of humour is mandatory.

The Club Nascar Club

Club Nascar is happy to announce that raceky has won the first segment of the Nascar Hypergammon Race.
WONRHAF and fladutchess raced to a close 2nd.
Nascar racing is on the back part of the year, drivers are racing to get into the "The Chase". There are only two races left before the complete 12-driver Chase field is set, seedings and all. As of Bristol, Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson are tired for 1st place in the standing.

Budgie

For all you "Bingo" players, Budgie has a new bingo game up and a game that pits the boys against the girls.

The Multi-Player Gaming Center Club
