GoldToken's Monthly News

• Pending Site Downtime

Continuing with our site rewrite, we are updating GoldToken's Operating System on Thursday October 5th right after backup at 3 A.M. PST. The site will remain down for a couple hours afterwards, while Tomas loads our backup and tweaks a few bits and bobs. Please plan on playing your games earlier, or later that day.

I am so excited to see GoldToken's rewrite unfold. Mecir is doing a terrific job! It's been painfully slow but so worth it! The GoldToken's Gaming Commission Club is now open for players who have special understanding of game rules and how they should play. If you are interested in furthering the value of good play and have the needed qualifications, please contact GoldToken Support. This club has a three month goal to provide suggested corrections to our current games.

Must work well with others, have a great imagination for inventing contests, understand wiki formatting or be willing to learn. Experience in club management a plus. Please submit your application to GoldToken Support if interested.

• Tournament Overall Time Limits

Heads Up for all tournament players! When a tournament is given an overall time limit, it then has two time limits. One for the number of days within which a move must be played, and the other that issues a strict number of days in which the game must by finished by each player. Each player is given the same overall time limit in which to make their moves. When a player has used all the time allowed for his or her side of the game, the game is up period. Vacation days can be used all the way up to the end of that overall time limit, but not beyond as there is no pausing an overall time limit.

Best Recipe Contest

September's winner is: Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes

• Submitted by Cat*Scratch

Ingredients
Cheddar and mozzarella cheeses shredded
Thin sliced potatoes
Chopped sweet onion
Chopped garlic cloves
Bacon crumbles
Scalded milk with a cube of melted butter

Directions
Layer all ingredients and cover with scalded milk and butter mix. Bake for 1 hour at 400 degrees. Its my favorite way to eat potatoes.

We would like to say to Honeybear for letting us step into their personal life for a bit.



1. What brought you to GoldToken?
A lady I played with on another site told me about GT and I fell in love with it. Have been here since October 12,2001. I will soon have 16 years!

How'd you choose your name for GT?
I live on Honey Hill and we have bears here so Honeybear.

2. What interests you most on GT?
The games and the people. I have made several lifelong friends.

3. Do you belong to any of the clubs? How about the chat only clubs (birds, kitties, garden)?
I belong to several clubs. I also have been running { Club } since August 28,2002. I belong to The Green Thumb Gardening Club because my husband and I love gardening.

4. What state or country do you reside in?
I live in North Carolina

Do you live in the city or country?
The area that we live in is rural. Even the towns around us you will see farm tractors parked along the 2 city blocks while the farmer runs in to get a hot dog or hamburger. Out here a traffic jam is when the farmers are moving their farm equipment from one field to another. My house has fields on 3 sides. This year on the left & behind the house was corn fields. On the right side is peanuts. Across the road is also a corn field. Can't see the neighbors houses until they cut the corn.

What in your state or country do you think tourists should definitely see?
We are 40 miles from the beaches and 200 miles to the mountains. All the little towns around here have festivals. We have the Pecan/Harvest festival and the next little town over is having the Yam Festival. In other towns there is also the Strawberry, Fire Ant & Watermelon Festival. So there is always something going on.

5. What hobbies to you have?
I do crafts. Crocheting, sewing, plastic canvas and fabric painting

What other interests do you have?
I love working in my yard. I have lots of flowers.

6. Children?We have 4 kids 2 daughters and 2 sons

Grandchildren?
4 grandsons ;; & 4 granddaughters & 2 great granddaughters


7. Do you work?
I haven't worked in years

If so what kind of work do you do?
The last job I had was a quality control inspector at a seafood processing plant.

Do you enjoy your job?
I enjoyed my job but I really enjoy being able to stay at home with my husband.

8. Any pets?
LOL Cats, lots of them. Living in the country they seem to show up. At last count there was 12!
I also have a boxer. She is 12 yrs old and is slowing down but still our baby. She loves this time of the year. She gets candy corn & mary janes.

9. Are you under 30?___ 30 to 50? ___ or over 50?
I'm over 50 and proud of it. .. I'll celebrate every year to come.

10. What's the farthest you've been from home?
I've lived in a bunch of states growing up. But I've always called North Carolina home. Back in 1990 we moved to Washington State and in 1998 when my husband wanted to move back home it didn't take us long to sell and pack. We drove across the country and we never so happy to see the Welcome to North Carolina sign.

Was it a vacation or for business?
We do go to Georgia every summer to pick up one of our granddaughters.

11. If you could be anywhere right now where would that be?
Right where I am now. Snuggled up in my chair with the tv on, playing on my laptop, my husband on his computer, and my baby laying on the couch watching the candy jar! lol

My sister told me about this site back in 2000 or 2001. I played as a guest for quite some time and officially joined Dec. 7, 2001. I started as Wood and only played my sisters at first. As time went on I began playing other people and was thrilled when I began to make friends from all over the world. I worked my way up to Platinum. I learned about clubs and how to edit the wikis. So I now spend probably too much time playing these silly games, but I love it. My favorite games of late are tabula, moultezim, tawula, officers skat, and large dice pipes.

Best New Game Design

October's contest is the best GoldToken Game Graphics for a game not already played on GoldToken, submitted throughout the month. All entries will be reviewed for playability, and judged by GoldToken's Graphic Arts team. The winning Game Graphics will be announced in November's newsletter. Winner will receive two extra months on their current membership, or, if Guest, a two month Silver membership, and see the game added to GoldToken's list of games and their graphics in the new game (as long as it is feasible to code), sometime during this next year.

Look at all different kinds of games you can design from many different genres. This is the funnest part of game design. We hope you enjoy planning your entry!
