GoldToken's Monthly News

Greetings, everyone! As you may have read in a recent news post, Badger is offline at the moment due to computer issues! I'm sure we can all sympathize. I am horror-stricken at the idea, personally! Frightened Luckily, we have a hard-working group of volunteers and squirrels behind the scenes who help ensure that the site keeps rolling along. Of course, Badger is indispensable! There are some things which may take a little longer to resolve as we contact her, but she is checking in regularly. We appreciate your patience and understanding. We have the best group of players anywhere! Group hug

Spoof!

Wow! Have you seen some of the Profile Token collections? It's easy to see why they're called Recognition Tokens - GoldToken's Treasure Trove! Smiling

A fun new game, using these Tokens, was introduced in September. It's called Spoof. Many thanks to everyone involved in the development and implementation, and to the squirrels who are still hard at work assigning them to past Site Tournament winners! Dancing

Hangman

A new variant of Hangman, called Thematic Executioner, was just announced! Additionally, all Hangman games now have an input box where guesses can be typed. If you type in the complete word (or phrase, depending on the game type), the letters that have already been revealed will be filtered out! High five

Have fun! I'll be seeing you in the games! Waving

1st Stop Information
Site tips and helpful tools

Did you know that GoldToken turns 13 this year?

Let's roll the clock back 13 years to October 5, 1999. On that date the first player signed up to play on GoldToken. Many of you would think that player was Chad since he is the site creator, however you would be incorrect. So it must have been Taylor you would say. Wrong again. The first player to sign up for Goldtoken was the Games Administrator. Grinning The first regular player account belongs to KINGSLAYER, who still plays here today.

Now, move time back up to today. Badger now runs the site and of the first ten people to sign up only Chad, Taylor, KINGSLAYER, Rick, & Kenya still play here.

To learn more about GoldToken's beginnings check out Who Made This Mess?.

By the way, in case you are wondering, Taylor was the 5th person to sign up and Chad was 6th.

Game Of The Month

October's game of the month is Tawula! Join us in a fun Double Elimination Tournament by signing up today for The October 2012 - Game of the Month - Tawula! Tournament! Have fun

Tawula, how I love thee!

Tawula is a fun and challenging variant of Backgammon. If you're a Backgammon player, there are a few things you'll need to understand:

  • At the beginning of the game, there are only two of your pieces on the board. You cannot place any other pieces on the point they occupy, and you cannot move those two pieces until all your other pieces have entered the board.

  • As in Backgammon, single pieces on a point are vulnerable. Here's where it gets especially tricky: You cannot blockade ANY pieces on the half of the board where you enter EXCEPT for the very last space! It makes good sense to try and make a blockade on that point as soon as possible. If your opponent makes a blockade there first, you may have a rough time of it! Falling

  • Try to blockade as many of your pieces as you can in your opponent's entry area. If you land on one of your opponent's pieces in his entry area, you must leave at least one point in his entry area open to allow him entry onto the board. However, if you land on one of your opponent's pieces outside of his entry area, it is fair game to completely block his entry area. If you can do that, you will have an opportunity to run the board while he or she is stuck on the bar! Flying red horse

I welcome all Tawula invitations, regardless of skill level! Send me an invite! Grinning

We hope you enjoy it!

Interview by: laura lee

**~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~**

We would like to say Thank you to Bobbyb1947 for letting us step into their personal life for a bit.

1. What brought you to GoldToken?
Well, I came to GT strictly to play my beloved games of Camelot

2. What interests you most on GT?
Chess (I'm currently on rung 12 of the Chess ladder) and play Checkers purely for recreation.

3. Do you belong to any of the clubs?
I am the newshound for the The Knights of Camelot Club

4. What state or country do you reside in?
I'm from Chicago Ill.

5. What hobbies to you have?
What other interests do you have?
I sat Vice President of the Chicago Chess for 1 year. My other interests? well, 50 years in Judo and Karate with my Japanese friends. I competed in exhibitions and competitions while earning my Black Belts. I've been actively involved in table tennis and MOSTLY TENNIS in which I was an alternate on the U.S. Davis cup tennis team. My friends have included Bobby Fischer (who was born in the same maternity ward as me at Michale Reese Hospital in downtown Chicago), Muhammed Ali (who I befriended at the South Chicago YMCA.) Jimmy Conners, Bjorn Borg, and John MacEnroe! Also in chess Sue Polgar and Reubin Fine.
I've been involved in Blackjack for 25 years (I much prefer the phrase "The game of 21") I've studied classical piano since the age of 5 and was named The TEENAGE pianist of the year award in Chicago and have taught and competed in international competitions. Not that I'm some "Big Shot!" I just happened to be in the right places at the right times! I also spent 4 summers as a life guard in Lake Michigan.

Do you enjoy your job?
yes I worked a classified Government job for 25 years hunting digital laser thieves (a bit James Bondish) but still 95% paperwork (even though I'm retired my superiors sometimes call me back to fill in some missing links. They're very nice and say it's not an order but a request! And I love helping them out! WOW what a pleasure to work with such a team of dedicated Ladies and Gentlemen!) and I also was a Chiropractic physician for 10 years.)

8. Any pets?
I have one dog. An Irish terrier named BIGBOY. He helps me stay #1 on the Camelot and Chess ladders!

Breaking Club News:
Brought to you by GoldToken's roving reporter, PattyMac

Are you a Star Trek fan? Do you have a firm opinion on "Kirk or Picard"? (Or, for that matter, "Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Janeway, or Archer"?) Or do you maybe have a terrible time trying to decide?

Do you, when you win a game, silently say "Q'apla" to yourself? (or maybe not so silently, you are on the internet, after all)

Do you find yourself wanting a beam up every now and then?

Are you afraid to wear a red shirt out in public? (or maybe a gold one?)

If so, then you should think about dropping by { Club }! They have a great little community, and are looking for new fans.

The Crafters Fair Club is working on a hug Scrapbook for a dear friend of GoldToken. Please hurry on over to the club and help put the scrapbook together, you can help give them all the hugs and support they desperately need. You do not need to be into scrap-booking to take part. Just pm Scrapbooking Maven who will fill you in.

Exciting news from the The United Atheist League Club who earned a draw in an inter-club backgammon tournament with the The MasterClass Club.

They say a draw might not sound like much of an achievement, but The MasterClass Club team has some of the highest rated backgammon players on GoldToken so we claim it as a victory.

The Friendship Club has introduced several new game types and different twists on the popular game of Rummikub, also a tag game of Grabble. New also to the club are Tutorials to help and aid all new members on the working of the clubs wiki's. Help on how to invite, posting of game numbers and anything else you may have questions on. You can pm that club owner for additional information: katja.
