Game Of The Month

July's game of the month is Officer's Skat! Join us in a fun Double Elimination Tournament by signing up today for The Game of the Month - July 2015 - Officer's Skat Tournament! Have fun

Looking for help with the more complex main version, Skat? Check out this Nugget:

Skat bidding guide, by ChipsChap

As a relative Skat beginner I face what many new players face: difficulty in evaluating the bidding strength of my hand. Here's a guide which I found on the internet in German and translated.

Count up the points in your hand. If you have 4.5 points or more you have enough strength to bid.

Jack of clubs only 1
Any other single jack 0.5
Jack of clubs and jack of spades 2.5
Any other two jacks 2
Jack of clubs, jack of spades, and jack of hearts 4
Jack of clubs, jack of spades, and jack of diamonds 3.5+
Jack of clubs, jack of hearts, and jack of diamonds 3.5
Jack of spades, jack of hearts, and jack of diamonds 3.5
All 4 jacks 5
Ace, 10, K of any suit 2.5
Ace, 10 of any suit 2
Ace, king, queen of any suit 1.5
Ace, king, 9 of any suit 1+
Any other ace 1

For some examples, if you have all 4 jacks you have a sure bidding hand (5 points). If you have Ace, 10, K in two different suits you have a sure bidding hand (5 points). If you have two jacks and an Ace, 10, K in one suit, you can bid (4.5 points). If you have Ace, 10, K in one suit and A, 10 in another you can bid (4.5 points).

I find this to be a rough guide that is conservative and can make you a bit of a "Mauerer" (someone who always underbids), but as a beginner it's fairly safe. There are many other rules and Skat proverbs that you hear, and many exceptions to all of them. I find Skat to be a very sophisticated game that will take much experience to really learn.

We hope you enjoy it!

Special Thanks written on a blackboard to ChipsChap for writing this month's Game of the Month Nugget. You too, can write a knock-out Nugget and reap the rewards! If your Nugget is chosen as the winner for GoldToken's Game of the Month in GoldToken's Monthly Newsletter, you will win:

Testimonial Of The Month
Brought to you by: *GoldToken* Players

Benny C ( Benny was the name of my cat) was a primary participant of only 1 online game site, which was Daily Gammon.
Being a member there since its inception(2001) allowed me to meet some great people while toning my backgammon skills. In addition
I organized many tournaments for pure enjoyment of the members.
Roughly 2 years ago, my wife was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and spent 6 months at home. She always envied the fact that I had
an online game site which I enjoyed so much and wanted me to find her a site where she could play Cribbage. Cribbage was foreign to me as
backgammon was foreign to her. I googled the net and found GoldToken for her. Needless to say, I became a huge fan of the site and started
playing more games that were not backgammon related. My wife (CaperViv) taught me cribbage and I in turn taught her backgammon.

I was ecstatic to see the variety of games available on GT and started playing many of my childhood favorites such as Salvo and Locho Ochos and Shake Rattle and Roll.
Over the last 2 years, my online time has been spent mostly on GoldToken, and although still a member at Daily Gammon, I find my time there less and less each day.

I play these games for pure enjoyment and never take them too seriously. I try to have fun (part of my nature) and use humor where ever possible.
I may not always have time to chat or to say good luck or good game, but that does not mean that I don't wish it. Playing on my cell phone at times, makes it
difficult to chat, and time constraints limit my speech. Mind you, there is many people out there wishing for me to limit my speech...lol

I have met some wonderful people on this site and always look for a good challenge. An entertaining game of backgammon can always be found with players such as
latenite, pchech, The Wall, Sir Gilmour of Gold Table, Jim O, and many others.
I truly respect true sportsmanship from players, and this site has many to mention. A couple that I would like to mention are racekey ( simply because of the determination of any game he plays whether skilled or not) and in backgammon; steveoboy.. who has not had much luck playing me over the last 2 years, but exhibits true sportamanship and determination in every match.

If asked, I am always willing to assist others with backgammon and any other games that I am familiar with.
Thank you to Badger for this wonderful site and I look forward to enjoying it for quite some time.

Contest of the Month

Best Blog Contest

What Is A Blog

A blog (according to Wikipedia) is a website where entries are written in chronological order and commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.
Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject such as food, politics, or local news; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic.

If you decide to enter the world of blogging, you should decide what kind of blog you want your blog to be. What do you want to write about? Are you going to write about many things or something specific? Decide how often you are going to add entries, every day, once a week, once a month.
Once you have decided what you are going to write about, you need to think about how you are going to write it or enter it into your blog. Be it by text, by pictures, or even external links. A great blog will take advantage of all of the above things, your blog story or viewpoint can be enhanced and made much more enjoyable and interesting to read by the use of pictures and links.

Write about what you are passionate about, write about what you know and make sure you know what you are writing about. For the more serious bloggers, you won't be taken very seriously if your blog is full of grammar and spelling mistakes. So make sure you spellcheck.

No matter your blog content, people will continue to come back to read it as long as you continue to make it interesting.

  • The contest winner will be chosen by poll on the Blog Entries DB, based on entries submitted in July. Deadline to enter is July 29, 2015.

  • The winner will receive a special Profile Token: ! Dancing

We have a winner for the Best Short Story contest!

The mother's helper, the young woman, a different one each year, who came with his family (parents, aunt, uncle, cousin and mother's parents) to clean house and watch him at night while his family was on the famous Atlantic City Boardwalk, never discovered him hiding on the landing between the first and second floors so he could watch ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS between the balusters.
Since he was six-months old, his family had been renting the same house on Hillside Drive. The house was located in Ventnor, a fourteen minute car, bus or Jitney (for him, the most fun) ride from Atlantic City itself.
This vacation, though, would be his best vacation of them all! This would be his last vacation as a boy. In December, just four months away, he would be a man! A bar mitzvah!
But, that is a show for the future. Now was the time for the main show!
He'd even skipped his usual night-time snack: partly out of excitement and, mainly, it would have taken him too long to eat. His braces were still new to his mouth.
Tonight's show was the fourth, next-to-last, chapter of the western he'd been acting out all week. Being an only child, he had to play all the parts himself. This would make tonight's chapter his greatest challenge. tonight was the fight scene between the hero and all the members of the villain's gang. he had to be very careful and have precision timing jumping from character to character while throwing punches at full speed in every direction to every body part.
    He was ready.
The first thirty seconds went perfectly. It was sometime during the next ten seconds that it happened. The hero misjudged a punch being thrown from the villain's most brutal gang member. He felt the bumpiness of knuckles meeting the smoothness of jaw; he heard the silken sound of steel sliding; he felt the pressure of metal tightening inside his mouth.

The dentist said, "I really have no idea how this could have happened."
The ninety-two-year-old man's look was more amused than puzzled: it was a look of near-perfect inscrutability.
"The staff at the facility had no idea, either."
The dentist stared at the two front teeth he held in his hand. When the aides put him top bed last night, those same two teeth were in his mouth. In the morning, they were on his pillow.
"It's impossible, but, if I didn't know any better, I'd think someone hit you in the mouth."
Mona Lisa would have been jealous of his smile.

In the van, on the way back to the assisted-living facility, he was alone with his thoughts:
They could forget to bring him his hearing aids; they could ignore the unrelenting peal of his call bell when he needed help; they could leave him, soiled, in his bed. They could do anything and everything to hammer away like a third-rate sculptor at his dignity.
He knew none of that really mattered.
He knew none of them would ever get inside him.
Tonight, as sleep's sands softly cocooned him, the hero would rescue the damsel from the villain.

What is a "Fast" game? There are two types 1 - A fast game can be games that take less than 20 moves to complete. Such as Loco Ochos, Switch, or Large Diagonal Duel 3 point.
So if you like games that play fast and are fun you can message MrLarry47 for more information.
