GoldToken's Monthly News

Much to the excitement of everyone (including me), GoldToken's 2011 Olympic games started this morning. I hope all Olympic players Have fun and Good luck in this years tournament. It's going to be a great year! We have bolstered our tournament code to properly ignore vacation days and days off, and as noted below, added several fun mystery games. A special Thanks written on a blackboard to Jacob1987, for setting up the games. A huge task in itself! Thank you rabbitoid for managing the Olympic Presidents club for the fourth year in a row. THANK_YOU club presidents too, for all your hard work and keeping with the spirit of the Olympics. We couldn't run the tournament without you!

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Thanks written on a blackboard to the coding genius of Mecir, I am pleased to announce GoldToken's latest game creation - Paper Football! As the name suggests, the object of the game is to kick a ball to the goal spot.

Two variants with an altered rule set are available as well - in Paper Hockey, the goal pots are bigger, placed differently, and passing behind them is possible. In Paper Basketball, the scoring rules are different.

Finally, a Simple variant of each game is available as well, with simplified rules.

Thanks go to FixitDave for creating the graphics for these games, as well as for preparing and polishing up the rules. Great work, Dave!

For this year's Olympic mystery game options, Mecir also added these wonderful game variants:
  • 6x6 Lines of Action
  • 6x6 Scrambled Eggs
  • 6x6 Parachute
  • 6x6 Gemma
  • Dice Salvo - a variant of Salvo where a dice throw determines how many times you can shoot
  • Salvo Plus - a variant of Salvo where you can shoot as many times (at each board) as you have ships left
  • Mini Reversi - Reversi on a 4x4 board
  • River Camelot - a variant of Camelot where there are obstacles on the board - an impassable river in the center with two bridges across it, and three randomly placed trees.

Thanks written on a blackboard to Sir Wilfred of Ivanhoe, who submitted the variant River Camelot and FixitDave who created the river, bridge and tree graphics. Great work, both of you!

For you Domination fans, a new variant of Domination is also now available, called Rail Domination! Kudos to FixitDave for his graphic work and attention to fine detail for all of GoldToken's Domination games. Be sure to send him your appreciation!

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

November also saw these wonderful site additions:

Hiding Album Photos - Keeping up with today's privacy standards, you can now configure your photo album to be hidden from anyone who is not logged in to the site - most notably, this will prevent your photos from appearing in results of search engines such as Google or Bing.

New Profile Images - Thank you to the creative talent of roses4gypsy, we have new holiday images for your profiles! You can view them near the bottom of GoldToken's Profile Pictures info page. Thumbs up

New Linking Abilities - Thanks written on a blackboard to Mecir, GoldToken has a new type of wiki link, { Link: NAME }, for many of the links you see on your gamesheet. For more information how to use them and the different ways to link to various site pages, check out the info page titled Linking Within GoldToken. Thumbs up
P.S...Be sure to let Tomas (Mecir), know how much we appreciate his valuable work on GoldToken! Personally, I think Tomas is amazing

Have a safe and happy holiday season. Good gaming!

So, yeah, it's us - the squirrels - again. A lot has been said about the Thumbs down feature that was recently put in place. But what about the Thumbs up? All those cute little upward-aiming thumbs are being ignored! If you are nuts (pun intended) about a post, why not give it the props it deserves? You can't your squirrel Thumbs up away for winter, so you might as well put them to good use! Smiling

Game Of The Month

December's game of the month is Paper Football! Join us in a fun Double Elimination Tournament by signing up today for The December 2011 Game of the Month - Paper football Tournament! Have fun

Very simple rules;
Pass the ball to a point where the ball has already been to previously or you pass it to the edge of the playing field and you get another pass.

Pass to the edge and you have to pass it back into the playing field or into the goal.

Trick in this game is to use up as many lines as possible so your opponent can't return.

Use the edges when ever possible to get that extra boost towards the goal.

Plan you moves and remember, there is no limit to how many passes you can do as long as you obey the movement rules.

The game has been made so you ALWAYS score in the goal to the right, no matter what colour you are.
This is the same for all Paper Sports games

Don't forget to shout { Image: i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll195/mydodgypics/GTGames/goal-1.gif } when you score!!!

We hope you enjoy it!

Special Thanks written on a blackboard to *FixitDave* for writing this month's Game of the Month Nugget. You, too, can write a knock-out Nugget and reap the rewards! If your Nugget is chosen as the winner for GoldToken's Game of the Month in GoldToken's Monthly Newsletter, you will win:

Testimonial Of The Month
Brought to you by: *GoldToken* Players

I was introduced to this site by a friend (who is no longer on the site)in order for us to keep in contact over the distance. i love board games and dont often get the chance to play them offline. i made a few friends on this site and one of them bought mer a silver membership (I wont say who to save her any embarrassment) so i started to play new games and met more people.
i try to get on the site everyday to keep the games playing. These games keep my mind alert and the discussions on the club sites allows me to express my opinions in a friendly way.
i actually miss the site whenever i take leave or go on holiday.
the people who run the site are easy to approach and professional. i have already recommended this site to others. Its kinda become part of my life...

Interesting Club Of The Month
* Interview by: laura lee*

This month's club interview is with The Sallyp and Friends Club

1. Please tell us a little about your club....
Name?
The Sallyp and Friends Club My club started in December 2007 as Sallyp and Budgie’s club.Budgie and I had run games together for some time before starting the club but always just as open Wiki games for anyone to play.
How long has this club been on GT?...
December 2007, with name change in June of 2010
About how many members do you have?
over 140 players and we start several games most weeks

2. Are you the original owner?
yes
If so, what prompted you to start this club?
We wanted a means of messaging all our players at once so starting a club seemed the best idea. We did not intend to run many games, we just wanted to set the club up as a messaging tool. How wrong we were; several hundred games later the club is still going strong, has been voted GoldToken club of the year.
And then a fresh start in 2010 when the name changed to The Sallyp and Friends Club was born. A club where friends can meet, play games, chat and I hope have fun.

3. What kind of games does your club play?
We try and run a selection of all game types. With every new game we message all the players taking part, asking them to send out their invites and we also message every winner.
Our club members like gammon based games best but we do try and play most GT games and we offer a good selection of Wiki tournies. One of the officers came up with the idea of running mini leagues, swiss pairing based tournies, best of 3 knock-outs, All Play All (a bit like the GT round robin tournies but done on the Wiki ) and we do lots of knock-outs. In some of these we include more then one game type to make them more interesting. Earlier this year we developed an idea used by others by running an Alphabet competition, trying to run a game for every letter of the Alphabet. We are now into our 2nd series. We also run an Extravaganza series, using gammon types of games and this has also proved to be very long running. We have other series planned for the future.

We offer about a dozen teams and ladders to our players. Although providing a more limited selection than some other clubs, we are still one of the top clubs in respect of the number of players we get signed up to these.
Recently we have instigated our Special day for members, where the members pick their favourite games and we make up a tournie for them. We have since extended this into a special day for Countries, where we pick a country’s special day and then add a history link for members from other countries to read – fun and educational too!
What kind of discussions does your club get into?
Recently we added a new board for our members `Ask Cekj` where members can ask questions and Cekj has also started a `get to know members` session where everyone responds to the same series of questions, starting with the club officials. So you can see we do not have a lot of chatting just a lot of playing of games.

4. Does your club do a lot of club vs. club ?
We always have some Club vs Club games going, both Wiki and automatic games. We run a set of Automatic games every month. This year we have asked members with special events like birthdays, weddings, anniversaries etc. to pick the games to be played.

5. Do you have a lot of 'helpers' ?
Cailin Deas and willy stepped in to help me run things and to keep the club going in 2009.
At this point I put an advert on the club board to ask for more helpers as I already work full time and found I could not devote enough time to the club to keep it running as I wanted it too.
My prayers were answered when johnnyyboy said he might be able to help us out, and HELP US OUT HE HAS !! The Sallyp and Friends Club could not continue to run without his big input and that of the other officers cekj , willy and most recently smiler5 who joined our happy team last month.

6. What are your future plans for your club?
As for the future of our club we intend to extend our series of tournies and maybe add even more in 2012. We keep trying to help our members and when new players joins our club we have a small match with them, the officers play this match as their favourite game. We also run a small `Get to know the Newbie tournie` also using the favourite game of the new member
We always try and keep a few places free so anyone that wants to join us is always very welcome.

Thank you for letting us have a look at your club......
Laura Yellow cat

If there are any questions you would like to see asked in future interviews, please let me know. Thank you
