AlphabetSweat Rules

Instructions: All players are welcome to run an AlphabetSweat game on the board.
  1. Advertise for players by posting an upcoming game invite on the General Chat DB - but only post once per new game please
  2. Post the game rules, time limit, chosen letter and 12 chosen categories from below on the board
  3. Play the game too, deliberately trying to use answers others are likely to use in an attempt to knock down their points (game holders job lol)
  4. Score the players entries - whom ever holds the game gets to decide what words do or don't apply
  5. Be sure to move your chosen categories to the bottom of the list so they are not reselected
  6. If all the categories have been moved to the bottom of the list, whom ever runs the game next needs to move them all back to the top
  • NOTE: Only use letters A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P R S T W and please exclude the letters Q U V X Y Z

Have fun

P.S. Feel free to add more categories, but please add them in the same format as those already added. Thank you

To play, please copy the categories, paste them in your reply and post your answer that begins with the letter R next to each category.

  • One answer per category, though, it can be more than one word. If an adjective is the only answer possible, you can only use one.

The objective of the game is to score points by uniquely naming objects within a set of 12 categories, given an initial letter, within a preset time limit.

1. In the time allotted, each player must attempt to type a word or term that fits each of the 12 categories provided and starts with the noted letter. Any number of words in the answer is allowed, as long as the first word starts with the correct letter. For example, with a category of "animal" and a letter of "M", words such as "monkey", "marmot" and "mouse" are acceptable, but "duck" is not (wrong initial letter), nor is "apple" (wrong category). Alliteration is encouraged; "Macaque monkey" is worth 2 points.

2. When using alliterations though, remember to follow the category. You cannot use generic adjectives to score points. For example, if the category is food and the letter is G, a good answer would be 'green grapes' because green is the specific variety of grape. Germy grapes, giant grapes, or Georgia grapes would not, since they are generic ideas and not really names of foods. Writing a bad answer is still better than no answer though because there is always the possibility that your answer will be accepted.

3. All players must have their list posted by the stated time to be scored. Players score zero points for an answer that duplicates another answer in that round, and one point for an answer no other player has given. Acceptable answers using alliteration score one point for each word using the letter.
    • For example, in the "M - animal" example, if players A, B, and C answered "monkey", "monkey", and "marmot" , respectively, players A and B would score nothing, and C would score 1 point.

4. Adjectives may not represent the letter to be used unless the answer will only allow for adjectives like "5 letter words". For instance, "mongering marmot" would only receive one point, for marmot. Similarly, "manic montage" is unacceptable because it does not fit the category even though it uses the correct letter.

5. You cannot use the same word twice in your posted answers (for two different categories) or they nullify each other. For instance, if you used "river rafting" for water sports and "rafting" for favorite hobby, the word "rafting" would be disqualified for both answers.

Please do not edit above this line, but feel free to copy and paste any of it. Thanks written on a blackboard
