re: tournament terminology
Posted by pegasiswolf  on 3 Jan 2013 at 5:36AM
being new to the site.. i dont really understand how ladders and tournaments work.... so i just clicked 'i will play' and let the system auto-start me some games.. but i would still like to actually understand the methods lol....

i found the wiki pages for tournament layout and types of tournaments...those helped some...

but I am trying to figure out what "divisions" and "no divisions" means.... is there a page that explains that somewhere?

also... ladders... the 'types of tournaments' wiki page states " You are allowed to challenge any other player who is above you in the ladder"... but the system just auto-started me in a game with the other person in MY rung that was not paired up with someone already....

if i wish to challenge someone on the next rung up... do i just invite them to a game? or is there a specific format to follow.. so that it will be a 'ladder' game?

sorry to be rambling...with a million questions... but im a newbie.. its what we do.. right? Flying white horse

thank you llwgirl for those links.. i have already read through both of those pages... i will assume that the description of a ladder tournament given on the tournament descriptions page.. is not the way it is done HERE... and i will just wait for the game to auto-match me...

did you have an explanation of what "divisions" and "no divisions" means?

A tournament with 'divisions' has the players separated into groups with similar ratings. 'No divisions' has all the players randomly matched. Smiling
